on creating a brand and a world that calls you to slow down and enjoy.
i have always enjoyed the process of creating something, and last year, i decided to dive into building something creative of my own. playing with yarn, structure, and hues made me feel fulfilled in a way i hadn’t in a long time, possibly ever. as i attempt to slow down and move with intentionality, i wanted to create something solid that matched how i wanted to live.
enter monomo, the knitwear brand i am building. monomo leans into the rituals that make every day feel special, creating pieces for those who create a life that is soft and intentional. in creating this knitwear world, i have been reflecting on the idea of taste. more specifically, how monomo can reflect my own sense of taste that resonates with you as well.
individual taste, as opposed to style, lends more into one’s person, the way that they move, what they find beautiful and inspiring. we live in an age of overconsumption, and there is strength in turning inward, being in slow silence, content with what we have around us, or what we can create ourselves.
taste is what allows people to create what feels aligned with them. taste is each choice we make that continually builds a life so unique it is impossible to replicate. it’s in the small details, so specific to us, many which go unspoken. taste can never be replaced, because it comes from a life lived. taste is cultivation

this is where the brand i am building connects with my awe of individual taste. it took me awhile to understand how to connect the two, but then it clicked. i create clothes for people who have developed an eye for feel, fit, and function, for sustainability and story.
monomo creates pieces that stem from a love of knitwear and high quality materials, pieces that can fit into your life, your sense of taste, and become uniquely yours. in building this world, i have learned to love practicing this craft even when it is unglamorous and difficult. that is where i learn the most.
put simply, i started monomo creating what i want to wear, what i want to see, what makes me feel excited. i love each color, each piece i create goes through rounds of sampling to make sure it fits just right. i am falling in love with the process, and that is just one facet of my own taste. it feels fulfilling to finally be learning how to communicate my own taste; my love of soft colors and certain silhouettes, the textures i see walking through the city or sitting on the beach. every detail that strikes a chord within myself.

my goal is that i can create pieces that become a part of your own ritual, your own memories. pieces that are functional, yet special. taste is fun to think about because it is what makes us innately excited, deep down; whether you love to collect seashells or matchbooks, or you love the color orange, or you collect tattoos as mementos on your travels. it is your favorite dish ware, the jewelry passed down through generations, the special weekly ritual you practice to ground yourself in solitude. it all ties back to what you love and connect with.
taste is intimate, because it is in the small things that lie beneath the surface, and is something to be proud of and comforted by. i find that while some of the things i love and am inspired by come from a place within, there are many parts of my life that are shaped strongly by those i have let in and are now part of my orbit.
at monomo, i have been reflecting on how each little detail of our lives, when aligned, provides a sense of comfort and wonder. sometimes it’s the simple details that create a day we want to last forever. and i am so excited to be starting on this journey of creating pieces that will add softness to your days, however you may be building them.
